Copper & Sterling Necklace
This is an example of Art Nouveau pierced work. The front piece in Sterling Silver is hand cut and then soldered to a contrasting metal. After chasing the decorative area at the top of the piece the outer edge is sawn away to the shape of the Silver overlay. The design is then raised from the back with a process called repoussé, which is a metalworking technique in which a malleable metal is ornamented or shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design in low relief. The piece is then polished by hand and some chemicals are applied to enhance the patina
